Can we agree that God created the entire universe as well as all the laws that govern its activities?

Just as God authored the laws that govern the activities of His creation, He also put into place laws that govern all things spiritual.    These spiritual laws seem to trump the laws of physics at times when such a law bending opportunity presents itself to Him with whom we have to do.

Hebrews 4:13 (AMP)
And not a creature exists that is concealed from His sight, but all things are open and exposed, naked and defenseless to the eyes of Him with Whom we have to do.

Deuteronomy Chapter 28 presents to us a stark contrast between the blessings and the cursing from the hand of God that hinge on the obedience of the people who are called by His name.

Deuteronomy 28:1-2 (AMP)
IF YOU will listen diligently to the voice of the Lord your God, being watchful to do all His commandments which I command you this day, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.
2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you if you heed the voice of the Lord your God. [followed by 12 verses defining God’s blessings]

Deuteronomy 28:15 (AMP)
But if you will not obey the voice of the Lord your God, being watchful to do all His commandments and His statutes which I command you this day, then all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you. [followed by 53 verses defining God’s curses]

From this important chapter we could conclude that our obedience or lack of it calls on the power of God to bend natural laws such that they will be inclined to provide an outcome of blessing or of cursing.   This should bring us to the stark conclusion that our obedience or disobedience is very significant and has strong and far reaching positive or negative impact not only on ourselves but also on many others in our family, our church and our community.

But God has a bigger trump card in His scheme of laws, the overarching physical law suspending power of prayer.   Prayer not only has the potential power to bend the laws of natural cause and effect, it has the demonstrated power to completely, for a time, suspend natural laws altogether!    Take for example the prayer of Joshua for the sun to stand still.

Joshua 10:13-14 (AMP)
And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the nation took vengeance upon their enemies. Is not this written in the Book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of the heavens and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day.
14 There was no day like it before or since, when the Lord heeded the voice of a man. For the Lord fought for Israel.

We could look at many other cases where prayer altered for a time the natural laws, for example when Peter was in prison and the Church prayed, or the case of the parting of the Red Sea, or the parting of the Jordan near Jericho.    Prayer and obedience are powerful.  Probably more powerful that we will know on this earth, yet they are not in themselves powerful, but they call forth power from the One who possess all power.    We might conclude that with obedience and prayer there is nothing that is not possible, since there is nothing impossible for God.

Let’s take a minute to examine the last sentence in the passage in Joshua above:   “For the Lord fought for Israel.”    As we reflect on this phrase we get a glimpse into the purpose of this miracle. Further as we examination a number of cases where natural laws were set apart for a time they each seem to have in common the fact that the answer to the prayer of obedient servants was in harmony with the purposes of God for His people.   There is little doubt that the Lord finds great delight in answering the prayers of His obedient children who are praying for the very things that God desires.

Where does true revival fit into God’s scheme of laws?   Is revival a bending of God’s natural or spiritual laws?  Is revival the suspension of God’s natural laws for a time?    I do not know.    I do know that revival is not our “natural” experience.   History strongly indicates that revival comes for a time and comes in response to obedient prayer.

We know as God fought for Israel in the day of Joshua, today in similar ways, He fights for His Church.   We know that God desires to bring revival to His Church in our nation.   We know that in order to change the “natural” way of things we must pray.     Will you humble yourself and pray and seek His face and repent of all wickedness in your life?    Oh what event changing power has the pure obedient life of persistent prayer!

The reckless relentless rot in our culture is rampant.   Can you hear God calling: who will stand in the gap, who will go for Me?   Will you say: “Here am I send me?”  These desperate times call for desperate persistent event changing prayer.   Will you join us in praying fervently daily for revival?   You can be a part of changing the course of the History of this Nation.  Will you pray?
